Introduction:
Winter is here again. And like every year, I am sure you are thinking about what to wear.
I used to hate winter clothes. Everything felt boring. Same black coat, same jeans, same boots. But this year, I have been noticing different things. People are wearing nicer outfits. And I like it.
So I made a list of ten things I keep seeing everywhere. On the streets, on Instagram, in coffee shops. And the good news is, most of these are things you probably already have.
1. Long Wool Coats
I got a camel one in October. I have worn it so many times since. It goes with everything.
Jeans. Dresses. Even my night suit. Do not judge me.
Colors I see the most:
Camel
Brown
Black
How people wear them:
Over a sweater and jeans
With a dress and boots
With a belt to make the waist look nice
If you are going to buy one thing this winter, make it a long coat. You will wear it a lot.
2. Waffle Knit Hoodies I did not understand the waffle knit thing at first. I thought it would go away in a month. But it is still here. And now I get it.
The fabric has small squares on it. That is the waffle part. It makes the hoodie look a bit nicer than a normal one. Like you actually thought about your outfit.
I have an olive green one. I wear it all the time. It is warm but not too hot. And it looks better than a plain sweatshirt.
Where I see it:
Hoodies (most common)
Sweaters
Cardigans
How to wear it:
With leggings and sneakers for a lazy day
With jeans and boots if you are going out
Under a coat when it is really cold
It is comfy. It is trendy. And it does not look like you tried too hard.
3. Chocolate BrownEvery winter has one color that everyone wears. Last year it was cream. The year before it was grey. This year it is brown.
And I like it. Brown is warm. It looks good on almost everyone. And it goes with many things. Black, cream, camel, olive. Anything.
I got a brown sweater in November. I have worn it more than any other sweater I own. It just feels nice. Like a cup of hot chocolate but for your clothes.
How to wear it:
All brown (yes, it works)
Brown with cream
Brown with black
Brown with olive green
If you are adding one color to your winter clothes, make it brown.
4. Wide-Leg Jeans
Skinny jeans are done. I know some of you still wear them. But it is time to let go.
The fit matters. High waist works best. It balances the width. And wear a fitted top with them. Otherwise you will look like you are wearing a tent.
How to wear them:
With a sweater tucked in and boots
With a short jacket and sneakers
With a long coat
With a fitted top and heels for evening
I got my first pair last year. I have not worn my skinny jeans since.
5. Matching Sweatsuits
I used to think matching sweatsuits were only for the gym. Or for people who had given up. But this winter, they are everywhere. And they look good.
The fit is important. You want it loose but not too loose. And the color matters. Light colors look the best. Brown, beige, grey.
I have a brown set with white stripes. I wear it all the time. It is comfortable enough for a long flight. But it also looks nice enough for brunch.
Where people wear them:
Traveling
Running errands
Casual outings
At home
How to wear them:
With chunky sneakers and a cap
With a puffer jacket when it is cold
With a small bag
It is the best "I want to be comfortable but also look nice" outfit.
6. Big Knit Sweaters
I am seeing a lot of different textures. Cable knit. Floral patterns. Chunky styles. And people are wearing them with everything. Jeans. Leggings. Skirts.
My favorite is a brown floral one I got a few weeks ago. It is warm. It looks nice. And it hides the fact that I ate a whole pizza for lunch.
How to wear them:
With jeans and sneakers
With leggings and boots
With a skirt and heels
Over a shirt
The key is balance. If your sweater is big, keep your bottoms more fitted. Otherwise you will look lost in fabric.
7. Long Sleeve Midi Dresses
The fabric is important. You want something thick. Not thin summer cloth. And long sleeves are a must.
I have been seeing a lot of midi dresses with belts this winter. The belt makes your waist look nice. So you do not look like you are wearing a sack. And the length keeps your legs a bit warm.
How to wear them:
With ankle boots and a long coat
With heeled sandals for a fancy look
With sneakers for a simple look
With a fur jacket for extra warmth
It is nice. It is comfortable. And it works for many events.
8. Ponchos And Capes
Ponchos and capes are popular this winter. And honestly, they are a nice change from the usual coat and scarf.
I saw a woman wearing a plaid poncho in a coffee shop last week. I added one to my wishlist right away. It just looked so easy. Like she threw it on and still looked nice.
How to wear them:
Over a midi dress
Over jeans and a turtleneck
With a belt to show your waist
With boots and a nice bag
If you are tired of your same old coat, try a poncho.
9. Cable Knit SweatersCable knit sweaters are old but gold. And this winter, they are back.
I have one in olive green. I have been wearing it non stop. It is now my go to sweater for everything.
How to wear them:
With jeans and sneakers
With trousers and loafers for work
With leggings and warm socks at home
With a skirt and boots
10. Light Colors
Light colors are always in style. But this winter, they are everywhere. Cream. Beige. Camel. Light brown.
What I like about these colors is that they are easy to mix. You can wear cream with camel. Beige with brown. It always looks good. No color clash. No stress.
And the best part? These colors make you look rich. I do not know how. But they do.
How to wear them:
All cream for a soft look
Camel coat over a beige sweater and jeans
Light brown trousers with a cream top for work
Mix different light colors for a simple outfit
If you are not sure what to wear, go light. You cannot go wrong.
Simple winter outfit for everyday wear.Final Thoughts
